Old Sugar Mill
The evening sky was shaping up to be something special, so as usual, I jumped in my car a mere hour before sunset and took off north for the Delta. I decided to aim for the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, CA, near West Sacramento because it has a westerly face that would line up well with sunset. Well, as I was about 20 minutes out, all the rays began popping out from the clouds and I had to miss all that. I got here just as some lovely color was starting to burn. The colors went to a deep magenta and then it was totally gone in less than 10 minutes.
The frogs were noisy and the mosquitoes were biting tonight, probably from all this standing water where they breed quickly.
The Sugar Mill was assembled in 1935 after being relocated from Utah. It changed hands several times as an operating sugar mill before closing in 1995, and now houses several wineries in the renovated building on the right side. Here are some historic images from the construction:
