The state flower of California, poppies, appear annually following the first few significant rains, and blanket the hillsides, line freeways, traffic medians, etc. They are fastidious, numerous, and quite ubiquitous.

Here's one from my walk around the neighborhood yesterday. My wife led me to a fresh patch of poppies blooming along the trail, so I naturally ran back home to fetch some gear.

I was so concerned about maneuvering through the flowers so I didn't mash any flowers, but for the record, it is not illegal to pick, destroy, mow, poison, etc the state flower. Full disclosure, I broke a few while setting up the shot. Sorry.

Hope you like this one.
