Hell's Kitchen

Hell's Kitchen

There's nothing like crouching in a filthy corner of a spooky old hotel after dark, with the stench of some rotting animal nearby. This is the kitchen at the historic Byron Hot Springs Hotel, once a thriving luxury resort popular with Hollywood A-listers and health seekers. Later, it became a prisoner interrogation camp during WWII and now is slowly succumbing to time and the elements in sinister fashion.

This night marked a return to a prior favorite location for some after dark light painting. Thanks Todd A. for being my light painting engineer! At one point I heard noises in the basement level and looked down the corridor to see a cow walking inside the hotel basement. I think AAA would take away one diamond for that. Here is a random web article about the place: wheretheghostsgo.wordpress.com/2012/09/17/the-byron-hotel...

I used a radio trigger to pop the red flash under the floor and Todd painted the distant wall with oblique white light and also stood outside the hotel and aimed a beam into a couple of windows. We pretty much got it in one take which was a good thing. A little exposure blending for the stars and color adjustment by Nik Color Efex.

I used the D FA25mm/4 lens on the Pentax 645D.
Thanks for looking.
