Under The Milky Way

Under The Milky Way

The galactic core of the milky way drifts slowly overhead, as the rhythmic pulse of the Pacific surf batters dozens of ancient boulders.

"Technically called concretions, these hard spheres are composed of materials far more resilient than the Cenozoic mudstone that once surrounded them. Over millions of years, this has eroded away under the constant onslaught of the Pacific Ocean, forming the cliffs that line the shore behind the beach and leaving the tougher ‘bowling balls’ behind." Lens is the DFA 35mm on the 645Z. I stacked several short star exposures(13sec) then used a single long exposure (55 sec) for the beach while walking along the beach with a light. Since there was no moon at all, any terrestrial illumination had to be applied manually. I used an LED panel on a monopod, dubbed "Low Level Landscape Lighting on a Stick", raised over my head for this. Now here's the fun part, I then had to quickly find my way back to the camera using no lights at all, trying not to fall into the tidepools or twist an ankle before closing my camera shutter.
